I know that before actually starting to write the chapters, authors are expected to publish the book cover.
Am saying this because I see same with every other writers like me on apps like stck, wattapad, rowllr, etc.
But me being me had to take my oh so precious time to finally decide on the cover.
So here I have dedicated an entire chapter for the yap.
So if you're interested to hear the background story behind the cover then here you go. hehe.
First thing first, I had many many non negotiables.
Which were,
No AI slop because I want my clean water and also I am an art adoree myself so no way I am disrespecting true artisty by any ai creation. (This is just my take on ai, I know that many authors, even the highly appreciated ones love incorporating AI images for their reels, covers, memes, etc. and trust me my intention is not defaming them but rather just expressing my true self for not using AI like others.)
Using Pinterest images as book cover , now I know that I might get very cancelled for this but trust me I myself love those pretty pretty covers I wanted same for this book too. But that 100% originality ka keeda is not leaving me. And your author is very single as of now to create one of those myself. 🥀
No character display covers, okay so this one is just a personal preference thing. There is also a type of cover where no characters are displayed. For example; magicalovely's hard copy and xeronsane book covers. They obviously look beautiful but also look way too mature for my liking 🤧. I need characters on cover please.
Now the only option left for me is to get cover shot professionally or made via digital art.
And I chose DIGITAL ART.
But wait...Can I afford artist? No.
Have I myself created any digital art before? No never, not even paper character sketching...
So who is gonna sketch?
umm.......ME obviously!... hehe....

NVM. This time I searched on Pinterest before drawing and my eyes caught this image.
Therefore I tried to mimic same outline to edit it into my version later. And here's how the block sketch looked.

I actually had no inspiration to how visualize her as a character for cover. So I just began by drawing random medieval woman to experiment different styles for her pose.
And to be honest... nothing felt like her.
I gave one more try giving more focus on learning art and drawing better sketches.
And this time I instantly realised what was missing..
It was the movement !
yes, Prasanna has a dancer body and have somehow have spent her most of the life practicing and learning dance.
Therefore incorporating dance has to be the major element of prasanna's visual in cover.
I had a very clear picture on my mind of what to display and made exactly that.
I think I did a good job this time.

Now all what's left is incorporating both figures in one frame.
Common you can do it SG. It is almost there..lol not, it is just beginning...but nvm you can draw.

I really got some luck this time.
Yes, that was my decision for few days to make it the official cover for the book.
It checked all my boxes also to tell how hot both were looking.
But just for once a thought covered on my mind.
'why does it look like that the sword man is going to behead the woman dancing?'
And it just spilled raita on my entire hustle.
I just couldn't stop thinking about it.
And obviously when I am making this much effort I absolutely don't want any signs of thinking to change it later.
But the double thoughts were just not leaving me.
The more I was looking at, the more it was proving my thought.
And i actually wanted a permanent thing for my cover also because it would be so difficult to change it again.
Therefore with a very heavy heart I picked my pen again to give a better pose to my characters this time.
And just went to draw without much stress this time.
My fingers were themself creating something as if my subconscious knew exactly what I had to draw without letting my conscious mind know.
Slowly and gradually sketch was making it's way into a life which apparently did resonate with my characters.
After many minutes of struggles and hope I drew something which I never intended to make in the first place.
Never ever seen somewhere either Pinterest or any social platform.
And most importantly gave a meaning to the entire sketch.
Therefore I couldn't resist saying it a YES.
